Dear Accountants

Dear Accountants,

 

Earlier in the week, I was checking through my old files and came across an appraisal document I used in my first life as an auditor. I reviewed again all the hard and soft skills we were being evaluated on back then. Those skills are still valid till today.

I will highlight some of them and perhaps flesh them up in the coming weeks. The questions that were being asked are as follows:

 

- Does he deliver quality?

- Does he demonstrate curiosity and innovation?

- Does he exercise professional judgement?

- Does he make an impact?

- Does he strive for continual development?

 

For accountants, these values cannot be over-emphasized. Some of the points speak for themselves and my admonition this morning is for everyone that sees this post to reflect on these values.

Ponder over them and set SMART goals to achieve them.

 

Your IFRS knowledge may be top-notch, your MS Excel skills may be outstanding but without the values above, you may struggle a bit in your career.
