The truth is hiring is all about timing. You might be an incredibly strong candidate, but it just so happens that another candidate is even better or there is in fact an internal hire they have in mind, you may be rejected.

All in all, understand that almost always, companies will receive far more applications than positions they have available so a rejection is far more likely. Just hold tight, keep improving and learning from each application and interview and trust that a door will open sometime soon.

    You didn’t research the company

At the very least, have a look at the company’s website to familiarise yourself with their history and what they do. There will often be a mission statement which can help you get a sense of the company culture and the core values they may expect too.

    You weren’t presentable

While you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, most interviewers will judge you by your appearance. It’s important to look professional and feel confident. Wear something you’re comfortable in as well and ensure your attention isn’t divided.

    You didn’t review your application

Re-read everything to make sure you’re confident in what is expected of you. This is also a great place to start formulating any questions you might have regarding the role. Keep a copy of your CV in a nice folder and have it with you on the main day, it will make you look organised and prepared.
