The answer to whether a portfolio and a resume are the same thing is easy. No, they are not the same. Portfolios are much more detailed than resumes and require a larger time investment to create. While a resume is one or two pages long at most, a portfolio is usually presented in a professional, 3-ring binder allowing for an in-depth showcasing of your experience and skills. Portfolios aren't meant to replace resumes, but rather to enhance them.

    What is a resume?

We can also say that your resume is like an invitation card where you get to introduce yourself to the world in a precise and time-saving manner. Your resume holds the key to the world of opportunities and it is through your resume that you can showcase and create a brand for yourself.

Usually, your resume for a job will contain information about your recent projects that you undertook along with your basic personal information like your name, contact information, and brief information about your hobbies and other stuff that will provide the reader with an overall idea about you as a candidate for the job and how well will you fit in the organization. So it is very important that you make sure that your work resume is carefully crafted in accordance with the needs of the company as your resume is all about selling your service to the company and you need to make sure that the recruiting employer gets convinced as to why he or she should recruit you.

    What then is a portfolio?

In proper terms, the job portfolio is a collection of samples of your work or activities which is shown to a prospective employer or recruiter in order to showcase your work in action. By using a portfolio, a recruiter can get to see and testify your talent. A portfolio, unlike a resume, consists of images, vectors, and other pictures that make it much more perceptive to the viewer and helps them to evaluate your work.

Online portfolios are more common today. There are many content management systems and tools that make creating a website for a portfolio quick and easy. Creative professionals can include photos or images that show their work. They can also link to websites or other digital projects they have worked on. This allows the portfolio to be shared easily through email.
