Even if your work experience and skills have stayed the same for a few years, there are still ways to write your resume for the modern recruiting process and job landscape. Guess what? Resumes have changed—significantly in the past couple of years. So have our attention spans, how we consume content, and what type of content attracts our attention; and resumes are not immune to these changes. You need to be open to incorporating changes into your resume in order to land that long-awaited job.
Here are 3 impactful ways to update your resume.
- Add your remote work skills
Remote working skills have become more important since March of 2020 when COVID forced offices nationwide to close. It’s a good idea to include any work-from-home skills on your resume. Also, look closely at the job description to see if the company mentions any remote work collaboration tools like Google Docs, teams, Trello, etc., and include these skills if you do have them.
- Have a resume summary
Have an impactful resume summary statement. This is a brief overview of your top skills and experience that can quickly communicate to a recruiter who you are as an employee without them having to spend so much time.
- Add measurable results
To give yourself an edge in this job competitive times, go through your resume and add measurable results to demonstrate your skills and abilities.
Example –
Great: Improved the record and bookkeeping systems and rectified employee payment issues.
Better: Doubled sales through excellent bookkeeping skills and improved customer retention by 30 percent.
